Swellendam – AfriCamps at Kam’Bati
Eat & drink
AfriCamps at Kam’Bati is situated on an Overberg farm about 20km west of Swellendam. The Sonderend River and Breede River meet on the property and our 5 luxury Boutique Camping tents are located in a beautiful and quiet patch of forest close to the river. AfriCamps at Kam’Bati is a nature lovers’ paradise and the perfect getaway for the adventurous family. There are canoeing, mountain biking and fishing facilities and there is a shared swimming pool for the children, while the picturesque town of Swellendam is only a short drive away.
Swellendam is not only the largest youngberry growing area in the world, but is also bursting with heritage, culture & architecture. Visit the famous open-air Drostdy Museum or enjoy the view of the Dutch reformed church, one the best-known historical buildings of town. Perhaps you feel more like an exciting river rafting tour along the Breede River. On the fringe of the town you will find the Bontebok National Park and the Marloth Nature Reserve; nature parks that provide various possibilities for hiking, horse riding, and bird watching. Swellendam is also well known for its vibrant food culture, with plenty of restaurants offering everything from traditional farmers food to coffee shops serving delectable cakes and fine-dining experiences.
Lying at the foot of the Langeberg Mountains, Swellendam is the perfect base from which to explore the Overberg Region and the surrounding wine lands. This includes Cape Agulhas, the southernmost point of Africa and meeting point between the Atlantic and the Indian Ocean, and De Hoop Nature Reserve where you can hike, swim, mountain bike, quad bike and go bird watching or game viewing. Our Boutique Camp can be reached from Cape Town in just over 2 hours which makes it the perfect weekend trip destination as well as a great stopover on the way to the Garden Route.
AfriCamps at Kam’Bati s located on the Jubileeskraal farm, which is owned by the Badenhorst family since 1958. Bati Badenhorst was the first farmer in the family, and today the two brothers Jaco and Francois Badenhorst handle all the farming and leisure activities. The Swellendam area has always been considered as the breadbasket of the Cape and is largely given to grain farming. At Jubileeskraal the family farms with Corn, Wheat, Barley, Canola as well as Sheep.
The two brothers Jaco and Francois always felt very privileged spending time in nature and enjoying the immense feeling of space and quietness on the farm. Sharing this experience with others just seemed like a very good idea and they decided to invite other people over to stay on their farm. This was the beginning of the Kam’Bati River Resort, named after their late grandfather Bati Badenhorst. To cater for nature lovers that don’t necessarily want to rough it, Kam’Bati decided to partner up with AfriCamps and set up 5 luxury boutique camping tents in a beautiful and quiet patch of forest close to the river.
