Hoedspruit – AfriCamps at Hoedspruit
Eat & drink
AfriCamps at Hoedspruit in Greater Kruger, Limpopo combines the best of South African wildlife, cultural heritage, spectacular landscapes, and year-round great weather. Located between Blyde River Canyon and Kruger National Park, you can expect some of South Africa’s best Big 5 game viewing and sightseeing experiences.
At AfriCamps at Hoedspruit 11 boutique glamping tents are dotted around a dam famous for catch-and-release fishing of Carp, Bass, Bream, and Barbel. The dam, surrounded by palm trees and visited by nyala, zebra, kudu, waterbuck and bushbuck is also home to a large variety of bird species. Here you will take in the tranquil views and birdsong from your outdoor wood-fired hot tub or waterside braai area. Bring your canoe for a relaxing paddle, or unwind with a drink by the pool. Our family-friendly camp invites you to a Lowveld safari experience that won’t break the bank.
Essential to the AfriCamps at Hoedspruit experience is one of our 8 guided game drives departing from the camp! Choose between tours to Kruger National Park, nearby private game reserves, the Panorama Route, the Blyde River Canyon, a sunset game drive, a guided nature walk, or a local village tour including traditional local cuisine. Find out more about our tours on the activities page.
It is no mystery why Hoedspruit in the Greater Kruger area is referred to as the Safari capital of South Africa, considering its perfect location close to Kruger National Park and some of the best-known private game reserves in the country for Big 5 viewing. Hoedspruit is located at the foot of the Klein Drakensberg Mountain, just west of Timbavati Game Reserve and Klaserie Nature Reserve, and within half an hour’s drive of Kruger’s Orpen gate.
Apart from the wildlife, visitors flock to the area to explore the Panorama Route’s jaw-dropping landscapes and cultural heritage. The Panorama Route includes all the most beautiful views and vistas, waterfalls and natural wonders of the South African Lowveld. Points to check off your list are Graskop Gorge, Pinnacle Rock, God’s Window, Wonder View, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, Three Rondavels, and Blyde River Canyon. Remarkable waterfalls to include on your itinerary are Lone Creek Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, Sabie Falls, Forest Falls, Mac Mac Pools, Mac Mac Falls, Berlin Falls, and Lisbon Falls. These can all be viewed on your route between AfriCamps at Hoedspruit and AfriCamps at Mackers in Hazyview.
Combine all of this with South Africa’s best weather and we’re onto a winner. December to February can reach up to 40˚C and winter months’ average temperature is 24˚C. We are so ready to soak up the African sun on safari in Limpopo!
Your wonderful hosts, Louwtjie and Monica look forward to welcoming you onto their farm to experience their piece of heaven in the Greater Kruger Lowveld.
The farm has been in the Roux family for over 70 years since it was bought in 1948. Louwtjie’s parents, Louw and Rebekka Roux took over the farm in 1989, to retire.
Louwtjie, who is also a qualified guide, fulfilled his career in tourism and nature conservation in the Kruger National Park, and thereafter in 1999, dedicated himself to the family farm as the 4th generation to settle here, with the ambition to create a homely tourist destination. The farm has since been a popular fishing, nature and safari destination, and from 1 November 2019, the newest addition to AfriCamps Boutique Glamping.
For the Roux’s, the opportunity to provide a travel destination that boasts comfort, style, homegrown hospitality, and rugged African bushveld, has always been an ambition. They consider providing a gateway to the Kruger National Park and the beautiful wilderness of the Lowveld, and providing travellers with an unforgettable experience, a privilege.
To be part a bigger family like Africamps, that provides these opportunities for travellers is a splendid opportunity, to grow, and to excel in the tourism industry. – Louwtjie & Monica Roux

Another familiar face you will get to know during your stay is that of your activities coordinator, Lloyd Cronk. There is no better guide to lead you through Greater Kruger. Lloyd has dedicated the past 23 years to nature as a safari guide and coordinates various tours from the camp. As a resident for many years on the farm, Lloyd has shared his passion for nature with many travellers, and enjoys the adventure of discovering the bushveld of Africa
‘I remember homemade rusks, biscuits and biltong, the old trusted caravan and Ford Cortina that were part of my childhood highlights when my grandparents would bring me to Kruger Park for holidays. The smell of thatched buildings, and Hornbills calling away in the sweltering hot day, still brings a smile to my face’.

ACTIVITIES ON OUR FARM
This AfriCamps location is perfect for avid fishermen as all 11 tents are located on the dam. This spot has been a favourite among local fishermen for years and you can catch Carp, Bass, Bream, and Barbel typically weighing 10kgs!
Please note the following important fishing rules – we love our fish!
Carp Fishing: Only specimen anglers with correct fishing gear are allowed to fish carp. Fishing is strictly catch-and-release, no fish are allowed to be kept in kepnet. Unhooking mat compulsory and available at the camp. Weight slings only – no lip grippers are allowed. Guests are only allowed to fish carp with one hook and 1 swivel. The minimum line capacity is 15lb / 6.8kg. Carp should be handled in the water only, using an unhooking mat and landing net. No holding fish in gills. No breaking off. No carp sacks allowed. No uncooked or dry bait allowed.
Please enquire from your host, Louwtjie for any specific fishing-related questions before arrival to make sure you have everything you need.
Fishing rates: Adults: R150pp per day | Children: R40pp per day
Go for a dip at the camp pool or unwind with a drink while watching from the poolside.
Guests are welcome to use the dam for rowing – the perfect place to angle from. Please bring your own canoes or kayaks and oars.
For the kids
Guests are welcome to bring bicycles for the kids. The kids love cycling around the camp. Take the kids to see how the game is fed! Feeding of game takes place between 17:00 and 18:00 daily.
Wood-fired Hot Tubs
All 11 tents have their own wood-fired hot tub. A wood-fired hot tub is the purest form of relaxation. After a day of exploring, relax while listening to the calming crackle of the fire. Or use it as a splash pool on the hotter days. Hoedspruit can reach temperatures in the 40s, so the private splash pool will be the hero of your glamping site in summer.
