Hazyview- AfriCamps at Mackers
Eat & drink
We set the bar high for our first camp outside of the Western Cape as AfriCamps at Mackers is magnificently set on the river bank of the Sabie River. Our luxury boutique glamping tents are all facing the river just a few meters from the streaming water and are surrounded by lush green grass and indigenous forest. The camp is just a few minutes’ drive from Hazyview, a small farming town that is famous for its banana, macademia and coffee industry, but even better known for it’s easy access to the Panorama route and the Kruger National Park, two of the most popular tourist attractions in South Africa.
AfriCamps at Mackers is the perfect place to relax and explore when looking to spend some time in the Mpumalanga bush. Hear the nearby wild animals at night from the comfort of your luxury tent or walk a few meters over the soft grass to dip your toes into the river right in front of you. Spend some time in your own backyard by taking a beautiful hike from your tent to admire the breath-taking scenery of waterfalls and wild rapids further up the river.
The camp is perfectly positioned to spend a few days exploring the area and visiting the many attractions in both directions of you. You could spend a day or two in the Kruger National Park spotting the Big 5 or driving along the Panoramic Route experiencing the breath-taking scenery and wonder of Gods Window, 3 Rondavels and Bourkes Luck potholes. Your host, owner Ryan will gladly offer tours for both routes.
Africamps at Mackers is located in the beautiful Sabie Valley Nature Conservancy between Sabie and Hazyview. Ryan and Michelle Mc Kain – the “Mackers”, hail from the East Rand in Gauteng, where they both ran successful businesses. Ryan, a real sports fanatic, ran a screenprinting business and Michelle has a Corporate Promotional business. The farm was discovered whilst on a holiday to the Panoramic route and Kruger National Park. The couple have a passion for wildlife and are avid birders which makes this farm ideal as it has more than 250 species for them to watch.
The farm is only a 25 minutes drive from the Phabeni Gate of the Kruger so whenever time allows, they like to pop into the Kruger for a drive. Tired of the ‘mad Joburg Rush’ they decided to invest into their piece of heaven 5 years ago and have been enjoying their decision ever since.
The farm offers absolute peace and tranquillity and both host and hostess enjoy the fact that they are able to share the beauty of their farm with visitors from all over the world. Ryan and Michelle have 3 sons who are not resident on the farm, but take every opportunity to come back for a visit. First on the list is nature and beauty, but they also enjoy a game of golf at the Sabi River Sun Golf Club.
“The move to the farm 5 years ago was the best thing we ever did – life is about slowing down and enjoying the beauty of nature around you, it grounds you – we are blessed abundantly”
