Getting there

And there it is! AfriCamps bang in the middle of the uber-popular Garden Route. AfriCamps at Ingwe is situated in the Crags, a lush forest and Fynbos area embraced by the coastal town of Plettenberg Bay where you can experience all the Garden Route is so famous for. Our high elevated tents boast outstanding views of rolling green hill tops surrounded by deep indigenous forested valleys and the Tsitsikamma Mountain Range.

AfriCamps at Ingwe is an outdoor adventurer and nature lover’s paradise offering a variety of activities. Visit one of the many popular attractions in the area, or just sit on the private deck of your tent and soak up the tranquil beauty and peaceful sounds of Ingwe’s forest. From Monkeyland, Birds of Eden, Jukani Wildlife centre, Hog Hollow Horse Trails, Plettenberg Bay Game Reserve, delightful canoeing trips up the Bitou & Keurbooms River to a visit to one of the many wine estates around the corner, one is spoilt for choice!

Camp manager Debbie Femor is an avid Environmental Educator and a founding member of The Green Ticket NPO and The Southern Crags Conservancy, which is part of the Eden to Addo Corridor. This corridor passes through a portion of the farm where Ingwe is situated. With AfriCamps at Ingwe she invites both adults & children from all walks of life to enjoy and learn about the forest and environment and how to preserve it. Join her on one of her forest hikes and feel her passion for the natural beauty that the area has to offer.

Situated between the vibey holiday town of Plettenberg Bay (10 minutes’ drive away) and the quaint village of Natures Valley; AfriCamps finds itself in the centre of the Garden Route. This area is well known for its outstanding natural beauty with mind blowing beaches and ancient forests. With Knysna and Tsitsikamma National Park both within a 30 minutes’ drive, AfriCamps at Ingwe is the perfect destination to experience it all.

The Edwards family bought this 200-hectare farm in 1985 to farm fruit, dairy and sheep. Originally known as Longridge Farm, it was once owned by the Newdigates of Forest Hall. Ingwe is situated on the southern edge of Longridge and this spectacular site overlooks valleys of indigenous forest, fynbos and has a view of the Indian Ocean. The Edwards family always had the vision of being able to share their beautiful surroundings with others and through the initial partnership of William & Lucinda Edwards and Debbie Fermor creating Ingwe Forest Adventures, this has been made possible.

Debbie is born in Cape Town and married with two sons. She relocated in 1996 to Plettenberg Bay to open a family owned restaurant. Moving here also gave her the opportunity to work and play at the same time, as she is a keen mountain biker and outdoor adventurer herself.

Debbie looked at ways to conserve our natural environment and make a living. Her experience from her work in non-profit organizations in the marine mammal and environmental education fields, as well as sales and marketing within the tourism industry, gave her a solid foundation to start an outdoor adventure career providing activities for both the youth and adult market. Unwavering belief in the potential of people to face and overcome challenges has culminated in her taking on the journey of developing Ingwe into a venue renowned for teambuilding and outdoor adventures that produce real learning results and promote conservation awareness.  Ingwe Forest Adventures was birthed in 2004 and received endorsement from the Western Cape Education Department in 2009.

A deep passion for the outdoors also led her to be a founding member in early 2000 of The Southern Crags Conservancy which is part of the Eden to Addo Corridor, plus a climate change and environmental education NPO, The Green Ticket in 2008 which is based at Ingwe.

One thing’s for sure, there will not be many people more knowledgeable about this area, and we as AfriCamps couldn’t be more proud to have her as our host at AfriCamps at Ingwe.
